From time to time I'm going to post "Children Anecdotes". I have 2 grandchildren, of which the older is very verbal. I love to hear kids' ideas on life, so I will post the things I"VE learned from them.
On the ride home from daycare with daddy:
Her: I want to go to McDonalds.
Daddy: I DON'T want to go to McDonalds.
This goes back and forth for awhile and finally:
Her: Well, I won't make you get anything......

The hand-painted nativity set of which some of the characters have been moved from their original positions to the toy box and on the desk.
Mom: Why did you bother the nativity set?
Her: They wanted to move.......

Conversation with Mimi on the phone:
Her: When you call, you can talk to me.
Mimi: Okay.
Her: Do you want to talk to Grayson (Little brother)?
Mimi: Okay.
Her: Well, you'll HAVE to talk to me because he can't talk because he doesn't have any teeth.......

"....being proud"
Today, I'm just sitting here "being proud."
And your question could be "Why?" or "Proud of what or who".....
The answer is: my son. My daughters will laugh at this (in a jealous sort of way). But what they don't know is the reason why....
As you may or may not know, he's in basic training. Of course, I'm proud of that, but that is not what has sparked THIS moment of pride. So far, he's called every week-end and has talked- but usually a question and answer type of conversation. Yesterday, this changed. He was full of conversation and I just listened in amazement........
Here's the conversation in a nutshell: (I'll leave out the pleasantries.)
approximately 10:30am
Me: I thought you might be at church.
Him: We're going later to a church and stay all day. They have a bowling alley and are going to feed us.....
Me: Well, that sounds like fun.
Him: (Now, here's where amazement starts to seep in) I've been going to church every Sunday. I bought a Bible when I first got here. I went to the Catholic services a couple of times with my friend. Then I went to the Gospel services. They sing and stand-up and clap.
Me: Did you participate?
Him: I sang and clapped. I know all the songs.
Me: (Smiling really big) Good for you!
Him: I got a Bible as a gift from a church so I gave the Bible I bought to a friend of mine who didn't have one.
Me: (Smiling even bigger and about to tear up with pride) That 's really good!
At this moment, I realize that after all the years (18) of lessons taught about having a good heart, sharing, thinking of other people, and not being selfish...........He got it!
He was brought up going to church, but was never a big participant in the singing aspect. Lots of times as a parent you wonder if your children even HEAR what the preacher is trying to teach.
He heard.
And I'm proud......

Thanksgiving and all that it entails
Thanksgiving......I have a lot of thanks to give, but I won't do it all here. Some of the things I'm thankful for are the generic things that most folks give thanks for: health (although I have something bronchial going on at the moment), children (4 to be exact and 2 g'children), animals (1 horse - the smartest in the world, by the way, and looks very good in his new haircut I gave him), parents (both still here and basically in good health), sibling (1 brother), vehicle (new truck, oh yeah, and it likes to go to the mountains), food ($160.00 for Thanksgiving, alone, which I intend to eat leftovers for quite some time), and good friends (of which I am meeting some school chums on Friday for lunch.)....yes, I still associate, communicate, and eat with quite a few of my old school friends.
Quite a repertoire of thankfulness.
I also am thankful that our God is a God of comfort and peacefulness. I have a cousin who is having some seriously rough surgery, today, and I know that God in His infinite wisdom will be there and in control. Thank you for that.
I hope that we take the time to remember all of the things that we are thankful for and not just that tomorrow will be a day of feasting and napping and looking at newspaper ads.
P.S. Who is going to write us a really good Thanksgiving song? Are there some hidden in the dark archives that need to be brought to light....

first
For lack of a better title - I started this blog journey with "first". "first" originated because a friend invited me to follow her blog. I accepted and was taunted or teased (however you care to look at it) by the Google page to start my own blog. Sounds like fun and therapy at the same time. So, here I am.
I'm learning the settings as I try to work, so I'll be changing things around until I get settled....which may be never.
There have been a LOT of "firsts" in my life....car (70-something Nova), date (we won't talk about that), husband (we won't talk about that, either), child (she's a teacher), house (still in it and probably always will be), flight (to Europe...what fun), job (nursery...flowers), and various and sundry others.
I'm not sure I like this font....Let's see what else they've got. Not much to choose from. Here's another one. One more. Oh, well, back to the original.
I hope that you will enjoy my blog and that you will laugh....a lot.
